The pricing is designed to make it easy to keep an image small and speedy, permitting the administrator of an instance to 'right-sizing' up or down an install in terms of the resource footprint it occupies. We may provision an instance on one hosting chassis and then migrate a virtual instance from time to time in the maintenance window, or otherwise as unexpected peak loads mandate. This is usually invisible to the end user. Sometimes we need to transfer an image to a different datacenter, and such cases require a reboot. If you have special needs that rule out an ability to function properly through an unattended reboot, please contact us at support at 781resolution dot com so we may consult on ways to help you address the matter.

All instances and enhancements are priced in 'points' per month, and sold on a monthly basis. Purchased points generally remain valid for twelve months after the date of purchase. This is required of us by our our accountants to avoid needing to account for 'contingent liabilities' on an accrual basis.

In addition to 'purchased points', PMMan also occasionally runs promotions, or makes grants of 'non-purchased points' for training, familiarization with a feature, and similar reasons. Such non-purchased points are often set to expire more quickly to encourage their prompt use. For example, the confirming email sent after first funding an account.

What about a discount?

We are sometimes asked about pricing and discounts. We chose to price items in points, so that we could decouple pricing future adjustments from monies paid. We think we are competitive on a fully priced basis, and yet still wanted each 'a la carte' item to not be underpriced (which would cause over-consumption and load issues). Quick answer: to get a price break on points purchases, once you are comfortable with your use pattern and can plan, buy them in bigger lots to get the price breaks. This assures us of a long duration customer we can plan for.
